Idukki

Want to relax in the midst of nature? Idukki is a place of towering mountains, beautiful valleys, and breathtaking streams. The River Pamba originates in the mountains of Idukki. The Malayalam word Idukku, which literally translates to “a narrow gorge,” is where the name of the little hill town of Idukki comes from. Idukki lives up to its name, as the hills of Kuravan and Kurathi form a gorge on either side of the Periyar River. The mist-covered hillocks of Idukki, a hill resort, have magical powers. Sandalwood, rosewood, and teakwood forests may be found in Idukki. Seeing Things.

In addition to admiring the natural beauty of Idukki, there are other places worth visiting:

The Idukki Arched Dam, which spans the Periyar River, claims of being the first arched dam to be built in both Asia and India.

You can visit the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary when you’re in the Idukki hill station. The 70 sq. km. Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located not far from the Arched Dam. Tourists are drawn to the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary because of its lush, diverse forest cover. You might see animals like elephants, bison, sambhars, and deer in addition to a vast range of snakes and birds like the laughing thrush, jungle fowl, and others.

Both Cheruthoni and Moolamattom, which are near Idukki, are worthwhile excursions. You may see things as far away as Kochi from the heights of Cheruthoni. The Idukki Hydroelectric Project’s hub, located in Moolamattom, is a popular tourist destination.

Trekking and mountain walks are available to thrill seekers in Idukki.

Ideal Season to Visit:

Idukki, a highland resort, enjoys consistent, temperate weather all year long. Idukki is the ideal location to visit at any time of the year because of the significant temperature variance brought on by the seasonal variations.

Visitors’ Attractions

It is a great idea to take a trip to Thekkady from Idukki if you love the outdoors and animals. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady brings together plantations, jungles, mountains, and an artificial lake with the local flora and animals to create a memorable journey to the Tiger Reserve. You may do boating, trekking, and elephant riding while you’re at Thekkady.

Then there is Peermade, a highland resort. The magnificent green grasslands, wonderful waterfalls, and plantations of tea, coffee, rubber, and other things make the former Tranvancore Peermade rulers’ summer resort worthwhile.

The hill resort of Munnar is another option where you can enjoy nature at its finest. The main tourist attractions in Munnar are the tea estates, woods, and wildlife.

How to Get There By Air: Idukki is located in the southern region of Kerala, 121 kilometres from Kottayam, on the way to Munnar. The closest airports are in Thiruvananthapuram, which is 154 km away, and Kochi, which is 64 km away.
